Shuttle, Rail, Bus

There are many ways to get around campus and College Park. 

The UMD Shuttles cover campus and the surrounding area and are free for UMD students and staff. Some routes may require you to show your student ID. For a full list of routes, go to the transportation website.

The MARC Train is a commuter rail system which operates Monday through Friday with limited weekend service on the Penn Line. The MARC train offers a quick and convenient way to get to Downtown Washington, D.C., Baltimore and BWI.

The MARC’s Camden Line connects Baltimore (Camden Station) to Washington, DC (Union Station) via the College Park Metro Station. There is no weekend service on this line.
 

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) operates the regional MetroRail and MetroBus transit systems to connect riders around the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia) areas.

  • Metro Rail  - Riders can take the Shuttle-UM 104 to the College Park Metro Station and from there, it’s a quick ride to Downtown Washington, D.C. and Reagan National Airport.  During the week, students can also take the Shuttle-UM 111 Silver Spring to the Silver Spring Metro station or the Shuttle-UM 126 New Carrollton to the New Carrollton Metro station. Getting to Campus

About IAD

  • Flyer Taxi - Washington Flyer Taxi Service (link is external) serves Washington Dulles International Airport exclusively with 24-hour service to and from the Airport. 
  • Uber/Lyft/Via Pickups are available on the lowest level of the airport. If possible we recommend having the applications downloaded and payment information entered prior to arrival at the airport. 
  • Bus/MetroWashington Silver Line Express provides bus service from Dulles Airport to the Wiehle-Reston East metro station for a small fee. From there you can take the Metrorail) to College Park and the surrounding areas. 
  • Shuttle Services -  Two most popular shuttles are Go Airport Shuttle or SuperShuttle).  Transportation can be shared and each person in the van is taken to their destination.

About BWI

  • Taxi Service - The BWI Airport taxi stand is located just outside the baggage claim area of the Lower Level Terminal, near doors 5 and 13.
  • Uber/Lyft/ViaPickups are available on the Upper Level/Departures. If possible we recommend having the applications downloaded and payment information entered prior to arrival at the airport. 
  • Train/Metro or Bus/Metro
    • The MARC (Penn Line) runs from BWI airport to the Union Station metro station.
    • The MTA Commuter Bus 201 runs from BWI airport to the Shady Grove metro station.  From there you can take the Metrorail to College Park and the surrounding areas.  
  • Shuttle Services -  Two most popular shuttles are GoWithUs.com or SuperShuttle. Transportation can be shared and each person in the van is taken to their destination.

About DCA

  • Taxi Service - A variety of taxicab companies serve Reagan National Airport. There is a taxi dispatcher at each terminal to assist passengers.
  • Uber/Lyft/Via - ​Pickups from are available at designated pick-up loading zones.  If possible we recommend having the applications downloaded and payment information entered prior to arrival at the airport.
  • Metro - There is a metrorail stop adjacent to Terminals B and C. Both the blue and the yellow lines stop at Reagan National Airport. From the airport metro station,  you can take the Metrorail to College Park and the surrounding areas.
  • Shuttle Services - Two most popular shuttles are GoWithUs.com or SuperShuttle. Transportation can be shared and each person in the van is taken to their destination.
