Ebenezer Akansah: Advancing Global Equity and Leadership
Originally from Navrongo, Ghana, Ebenezer Akansah is a graduate student pursuing a Master’s in Public Administration. With a deep passion for education policy, social policy, and nonprofit management, he is committed to creating equitable opportunities for marginalized communities.
As a Thurgood Marshall Research Fellow at the Institute for Public Leadership, Ebenezer explores how public leadership can drive racial and social equity. His research delves into the policies that shape inclusive societies, ensuring that leadership reflects the needs of diverse populations. His commitment to impactful change has also earned him the Ellis E. Meredith Fellowship Award, recognizing his academic excellence and dedication to public service.
Beyond academics, Ebenezer is a dedicated advocate for international students. At UMD, he serves as an International Orientation Leader and a member of the International Student Advisory Board, championing initiatives that foster belonging and ease the transition for newcomers. His advocacy focuses on mentorship programs that provide support and community for international students. Guided by a powerful Ghanaian proverb:
Dua korɔ gye mframa a, ebu, na nso dua bebree gyina a, mframa rentumi mma wɔn.
A single tree breaks in the storm, but a forest stands strong together.
For Ebenezer, leadership goes beyond policy—it is about building communities, strengthening institutions, and ensuring no one is left behind.
