Photo & Video Contest

We are thrilled to invite all Fall 2023 - Summer 2024 study abroad returnee students to participate in our Education Abroad Content Contest. This is your change to showcase your experience abroad, relive those once in a lifetime experiences, inspire future Terps and win amazing prizes.

Categories

For this competition, we are accepting content submissions in the following categories:

  1. Photo Submissions
    1. UMD Pride  and Global Connections: Show us how you’re representing the UMD community abroad and the new global friendships you made
    2. The world is your classroom: How are YOU engaging and integrating yourself in your cultural environment and how is it related to your academic experience?
  2. Video Submissions
    1. Day in the Life Abroad: Take us through a typical day abroad, showcasing your routine, local experiences, and daily interactions.
    2. Impact & Immersion Highlights: Share videos of meaningful moments that made an impact, whether through volunteering, cultural experiences, or personal growth.

Prizes: 

Education Abroad staff will select one winner from each category to participate in a community vote on Instagram (@maryland.global). The grand prize winners will receive a $100 Terrapin Express gift card or Osprey Backpack, and the runner-ups will receive $50 Terrapin Express gift cards

By participating in this competition, you are giving permission to the University of Maryland to use your photos and videos in marketing materials to promote study abroad. This might include advertisements, program flyers and on the website.

Submit the form by November 1, 2024

Contest Rules:

  • Entrants must be 18 years or older.
  • Entrants must be the sole owner of the copyright of any image submitted
  • Photos must be High Resolution: at least 1200 x 1600 pixels
  • Multiple entries are accepted, but each submission must be a unique photo or video. Please do not submit the same photo or video in multiple categories.
  • Photos and videos must be free of alcohol, cigarettes, or any inappropriate material.
  • By entering the contest, entrants agree to allow their photographs and videos to be published and displayed by the Education Abroad office, including usage in upcoming marketing materials to promote study abroad at the University of Maryland.
  • Students must have studied abroad with a UMD program at any point from Fall 2023 through Summer 2024 to be considered for this competition (short-term programs are included). 

Video Guidelines:

  1. Length & Theme: Videos should be 1-3 minutes and align with the contest theme of Day in the Life or Impact & Immersion.
  2. Filming Orientation: Videos should be filmed and edited in a vertical format, suitable to be shared on social media like Instagram reels or TikTok.
  3. Original & Legal Content: All content, including music and images, must be original or legally obtained. No copyrighted material without proper licensing.
  4. Appropriate Language & Imagery: Videos, including music, must not contain profanity, hate speech, discriminatory language, nudity, or offensive content.
  5. No Depiction of Alcohol, Drugs, or Reckless Behavior: Videos should not show or promote the use of alcohol, drugs, or dangerous activities.
  6. Respect for Cultures & Individuals: Content should be culturally sensitive, and all featured individuals must provide consent to appear in the video.
  7. Safety & Privacy: Videos must promote safe practices and not include any personal information (e.g., addresses, phone numbers).
  8. Submission Format: Submit videos in an .mp4 format[insert file format, e.g., MP4], ensuring high-quality footage.
