I am a double degree bioengineering and English major. There was a program for me so there is a program for everyone. The process of applying is simple, the hard part is finding where you want to go and that will require research.
Steps to apply
Explore programs to get an idea of the academic focus, destination, terms, and engagement opportunities that interest you. Take notes and record questions to ask during the meeting with your Global Learning Advisor. Be sure to note courses that interest you.
As you begin to explore study abroad programs, schedule a meeting with the Global Learning Advisor for your college or chosen program. Your Global Learning Advisor will help you develop your goals for study abroad and answer questions on topics including:
- Academics
- Finances
- Professional Development
- Personal Concerns
Determine how your scholarship and financial aid will apply to study abroad by browsing the Affordability section of our website. You will have the option to apply for Education Abroad scholarships as a part of your program application in the MyEA portal. You can also apply to external scholarships for additional funding opportunities.
You should plan to meet with your academic advisor soon after you decide to go abroad to determine how study abroad can fit into your four year plan. It is best to do this after meeting with your EA advisor so you have an idea of the types of credits and requirements you may be able to fulfill abroad.
Once you decide on a program, you must apply through our online application portal, MyEA. Maryland-in and Maryland-led applications are completed entirely through MyEA but to attend an Exchange, Affiliate Program or Other Approved Program, you must complete a MyEA application as well as an application to the host institution or program provider. Be sure to submit your application by the program’s deadline.
Soon after your program’s deadline, you will receive a notification if you have been accepted or approved to participate in your program. If you’ve been accepted or approved, you will need to commit to your program. If you’re doing an exchange, affiliate, or other approved program, you will need to complete your host institution or program provider’s application as well.
If you’ve been accepted or approved, you will need to commit to your program by pressing the "Commit" button on your MyEA application. For Maryland-in and Maryland-led programs, you will also need to pay a non-refundable program deposit through your MyEA application.
→ If you’re doing an exchange, affiliate, or other approved program, you will need to complete your host institution or program provider’s application as well.
Once you commit to your program, congratulations – you’re one step closer to going abroad! Your Global Learning Advisor will send you more information on the next steps you will need to take in your study abroad journey.
