Course Details
An introductory course in expository writing. The course will explore the intersection of scholarly and creative writing in the career of J.R.R. Tolkien, engaging students in conversations about Tolkien's work, reception, and legacy with scholars and writers around the globe. These sections may appeal in particular to those interested in gaining international experience and in the study of literature, fantasy, and medievalism.

Prerequisites & Restrictions
Students with a TSWE score of 33 or below must take ENGL 101A in place of ENGL 101. Students for whom English is a second language should consider taking ENGL 101X in place of ENGL 101.
Faculty Highlight
Peter Grybauskas
Peter Grybauskas teaches in the English department. Before joining the faculty at Maryland, he lived and taught for several years in Rome, where he also collaborated with the Roman Association of Tolkien Studies. He has published a number of essays on Tolkien and is delighted to share his interest in fantasy with students.
