International Student Support Fund
Make a difference for an International Terp!
The International Support fund helps UMD international students experiencing a global crisis gain access to funds for the vital resources they need to focus on the education they deserve.
Over the years, ISSS has worked with countless students impacted by famine, forced displacement, war, natural disasters, and other challenges. During such a crisis having support from the UMD community helps students find the resilience necessary to continue their studies.
In its first year of existence the fund assisted 7 students who experienced crises in their home countries. Global crises are ongoing. Your support is greatly appreciated and reminds international Terps that they are part of a caring community.
As an international student, being far from home can be tough especially when unexpected challenges arise. The support fund has not only helped ease some of the financial burden, but it has also reminded me that there are people who are willing to help in difficult times.
The International Student Support Fund is designed specifically to assist international students who are experiencing hardship related to a crisis occurring in their home country. This fund aims to alleviate some of the immediate pressures you may be facing by providing financial assistance for essential living necessities, ensuring you can focus on your studies and well-being during this trying time.
If you find yourself in need of support, we encourage you to apply for this fund. We are committed to helping you navigate through these challenges with dignity and resilience. Please take a moment to review the application details and criteria below, and do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need further assistance.

The International Student Support Fund was launched by International Student and Scholar Services in 2024. The world continues to change, and countless global events such as famine, forcible displacement, war, natural disasters and financial distress continue to impact our UMD international students and their families every day. Necessities like housing, groceries, medical bills and transportation are not always guaranteed for all students. This new fund provides a resource for our International Terps experiencing hardship due to a crisis in their home country.
Applications are reviewed and awarded by ISSS staff.
