When Siddharth Sharma, M.S. ‘23, arrived in College Park from Delhi, India, his first impression came in a small but meaningful package—a welcome packet from the University of Maryland’s International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS). Inside were maps, a metro card, and tips for navigating life in the D.C. area.

Education Abroad and the French department within School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures introduce a new study abroad program in southern France, building on 35 years of Maryland’s legacy in Nice.

The Department of State (DOS) requires institutions like the University of Maryland to report significant incidents involving J-1 or J-2 exchange visitors.  DOS has indicated that any incident that impacts the health, safety, or welfare of J-1 visa holders or that could bring the DOS exchange visitor program notoriety or disrepute is reportable to the DOS. Examples include serious medical issues, hospitalization, natural disasters, allegations of sexual harassment or misconduct. Upon learning of a reportable incident, ISSS is required to report it to DOS within one day.

An immersive, project-based course that covers strategies for teaching and learning in K-12 and higher education classrooms using global, African knowledge systems, incorporating virtual collaboration with peers at partner institutions abroad. 

This course focuses on issues related to critical literacy, digital technology, and literacy instruction, including the impact of media and various technologies on teachers and students.
