The University of Maryland (UMD) recently welcomed 24 undergraduate students from across Germany for a month-long journey of discovery, dialogue and leadership. The result: fearless ideas, global friendships and skills that will continue to shape them as future-ready leaders.

This summer, alongside their annual staff retreat, the Education Abroad (EA) team engaged in a professional development series focused on strengthening global learning design and outcomes—part of a broader effort to ensure every student’s experience abroad is purposeful, inclusive, and aligned with their goals.

UMD recently was ranked No. 4 among all institutions nationwide in the number of students to receive Gilman scholarships, a program of the U.S. Department of State that awards up to $5,000 to U.S. students eligible for Pell Grants for their pursuits abroad.

The University of Maryland (UMD) College Park, in partnership with Bowie State University (BSU), has been selected to receive the 2025 IIE American Passport Project grant. This collaborative initiative will enable UMD and BSU to nominate 25 eligible students to each receive $165.00 to fund their U.S. passport application process.
