Yipeng Lu is a mechanical engineering student from Kunming, China, drawn to the field by a passion for solving problems and understanding how things work. At UMD, he has found a hands-on learning environment that allows him to explore mechanical systems and the field of engineering.

A counseling psychologist by training, he was drawn to the program for its emphasis on social justice, equity, and decolonial philosophies — values shaped by over a decade of higher education work across Africa.
Meet Eralp Toker
Eralp is an undergraduate student from Turkey majoring in Cyber and Physical Systems Engineering, with a strong interest in engineering design. His work has taken him to the Turkish Patent Agency to secure patents for his medical robotics designs.
