Kislay Parashar became involved in student leadership at the University of Maryland as soon as he stepped foot in the U.S., becoming the Student Government Association’s international student representative at the start of his freshman year. Three years and many leadership roles later, he serves as the first international student to become SGA president in UMD history.

International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) assists international faculty and scholars who will be conducting research or teaching at the University of Maryland, College Park with the process of applying for a visa.

What can the world teach you about the art of teaching others? Susan De La Paz has spent her career working towards equitable outcomes for students with learning disabilities, and in 2022, she took her work to Vietnam on a Fulbright scholarship.

To Brazil, Ireland, the Caribbean, and back, ARHU’s own Kate Spanos has taken her love of dance all over the world. In 2018, she traveled to Federal University of Pernambuco on a Fulbright in Recife, Brazil, for an 8 month exploration frevo dance.

ISSS is responsible to work with campus departments to invite exchange visitors to the University of Maryland. Our office is authorized to issue the Form DS-2019, the document used to obtain the J-1 visa.
