Location: Global Crossroads, H.J Patterson Hall (outside the Education Abroad Office)
Education Abroad and the National Scholarship Office invites all students applying for the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship to participate in Gilman Writing Workshops to refine their essays.
Whether you’re drafting an outline, writing your first draft, or refining your final version, this workshop is for you! Join us on Tuesday, September 23rd for a dedicated session that provides a supportive space for all stages of the Gilman Scholarship essay writing process.
- Date: Tuesday, September 23rd
- Time: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
- Location: Global Crossroads, H.J Patterson Hall (outside the Education Abroad Office)
What to Expect:
- Communal Writing Space: A relaxed environment where you can focus on writing your Gilman Scholarship essay, no matter where you are in the process.
- Idea Sharing: Bounce ideas off staff, and gain new perspectives on your essay.
- Optional Feedback: Receive constructive feedback from the National Scholarships Office (NSO) to help refine your essay. This will satisfy the Gilman Guarantee requirements to work with the NSO to have your Gilman application essays reviewed by Thursday, October 2nd. Attending the workshop alone does not qualify; students must get NSO feedback. Due to limited capacity, the NSO may not meet with all workshop attendees, so students should plan to schedule a separate meeting if needed.
- Comfortable Atmosphere: Enjoy ambient music, cookies, and coffee to create a conducive writing environment
This workshop welcomes all Gilman applicants, whether you're just getting started or putting on the finishing touches. While it’s not necessary to stay for the whole time, we do ask that students RSVP here for an accurate headcount for snacks and beverages.
